I, Tynan Rhea, am a first generation uninvited guest/settler with Slovak and German ancestry living on unceded lands that were originally stewarded by Mi’kmaq people and later exploited by colonists through the enslavement of people from the African diaspora. As a sex therapist who regularly witnesses the abuse of colonial ideology and oppression within my client’s sexual expression and mental health, I am in solidarity with communities undergoing a genocide, from the Indigenous nations of so-called Canada to the Indigenous peoples of South America, Palestine, Sudan, Republic of Congo, while continuing to learn of the many other systemically oppressed communities across the globe. I stand in solidarity and ongoing learning with my fellow disabled, neurodivergent, transgender, queer, bisexual, kinky, non-monogamous and intersex peers. I continue to inform myself in ways I can support BIPOC, asexual, lesbian, gay, questioning, impoverished, immigrant, refugee, non-status, friends/colleagues/neighbours/peers. I show my support through boycotts, organizing within the field of psychotherapy, solidarity networking, attending protests, and gardening. You can learn more in my beliefs and values section.
My hope as a sex therapist is to support people in making authentic connections within themselves and with others that untangle internalized white supremacist “ideals” of compulsory heteronormativity, monogamy, and reproductive sex leading to racism, cissexism, classism, xenophobia, fatphobia, body hair shaming, ablism, and sexual violence. I work for a world where we treat our bodies, our earth, and each other with a loving and respectful sensuality that communicates our gratitude for the opportunity of life.
If you are concerned by anything on this website or in my practice that does not uphold these values please do not hesitate to contact myself.
